Infinite Beasts
From time to time I watch you closely, with new eyes,
appreciating how much of you I haven't seen
and I'm no longer sure whether it's what I know of you
that attracts me, or what I might find.
When we met, I thought knowledge had limits, that in love
we were finite beasts who shared known boundaries
but watching you touch objects for which I have no desire
I see a measure of longing in your eyes
that forces me to say, I don't know you yet. That forces me
to say, there are places in you I may not wish to know.
In love we are beasts of infinity, crude in our longing
for things that may carry us apart. It's more than biology
or romance, more than drawing thorns from feet
with gentled fangs, more than all we have been told;
it's finding a reason to come together
without killing the wildness we each carry
like a gift we haven't decided to share
and hold inside ourselves with only the edges showing.

I remember when I introduced you to that poem. I loved it. And I still love it but I understand it so much more now - not ust because I have experienced it but because my brain is more developed. I think my brain keeps changing and becoming less concrete still. Good thing I haven't done anything permanent before now, before my brain has grown up, like get married or something.
Hmm,... Where's your romantic idealism? We have to find it before the next dance! What we need is a sappy chick flick, one with enough credibility to suck you in! August Rush is my pick right now.
"You've Got Mail." Or "While You Were Sleeping." Or "Sleepless in Seattle."
Those are classics. Sadly, she has built up an immunity to them. It has to catch her off gaurd, she is determined not to be another victim of... You know how people say, "Yes, I was naive once and believed that a man and a woman could live a love filled and happy life together - but then we got married - I don't even want to finish - anyway, I don't believe them. I believe that if two people are naive enough they can have that Princess Bride kind of True Love for evuh and evuh... there's a dance tonight, who knows what will happen!
This poem was so interesting. Thank you for sharing it with us Julie. I hope you have fun at the dance tonight. Emma was doing my hair and makeup tonight getting me ready for a dance.... hmmm. I loved August Rush, but I must say that I truely love Sleepless in Seattle. I must add that I still believe in love filled marriages and a happy life together. Just as sisters have their ups and downs but still can't wait to see eachother and talk to one another.
I believe you Sharon. I love being around you and Jon. Its always fun and pleasant. And I'm sure Emma did a good job. Good for you for letting her develop her talents like that! We are so blessed to have each other!
